🍜 Bib GourmandChiang Mai
🕐Advance booking only, 2 seatings: lunch 11:00-15:00 / dinner 17:00-2
🥢Signature — Coconut-lychee yam tossed with roasted coconut sugar

Chawee takes advance bookings only — no walk-ins, no online booking system — you have to call 084-324-9363, and that's the only way. Because there are only 3-4 tables, book several days ahead, especially during Chiang Mai's high season (Nov-Feb) when you'll want extra lead time. The restaurant serves two seatings a day: lunch 11:00-15:00 and dinner 17:00-21:00, closed every Tuesday.

The set menu runs about 1,000 THB per head for 7 courses, with dessert included when dining as a group of 4 or more. There's no à la carte — the set changes at the start of every month based on seasonal ingredients, so if you want to know what's on that month, just ask when you call to book. The restaurant itself is a pastel-green vintage shophouse in the Chang Phueak area, on Chotana Road near Lanna Golf Club, a few minutes' drive from the Chiang Mai old city moat — Lanna Golf Club is the easiest landmark to navigate by. A group of 4 is the sweet spot — you get the bonus dessert and a chance to taste every dish on the set for the best value. Read the full review →

👍 Best forA budget breakfast-to-lunch spot for families and drivers touring the San Sai-Mae Jo area who want a Bib Gourmand meal for under THB 100 a head
🍜 Bib GourmandChicken rice
🕐Open daily, mornings around 07:00-07:30 until 14:00
🥢Signature — Tender, juicy boiled chicken rice with fragrant, evenly-cooked rice, topped with the restaurant's own bold ginger dipping sauce

Dan Chicken Rice, San Sai branch, sits on the old San Sai road near Sam Yaek San Sai market, across from the PT gas station, with a chicken statue out front as the landmark — easy to find if you're driving yourself. The restaurant is open every day from around 07:00-07:30 until 2pm, but take that closing time with a grain of salt, since the boiled chicken usually sells out before the afternoon even with large daily batches prepared. Best to go before noon, or for a sure bet, go in the morning.

No need to worry about the price — a plate of chicken rice runs about 35-45 baht, and a full meal with rice, broth, and sides comes in under 100 baht per person. The restaurant is walk-in only, no advance booking needed, but if you want to check whether the chicken is still available or order a large quantity, call 081-022-1128 or 081-387-4404. The easiest way to get there is by your own car or a ride from downtown Chiang Mai heading toward San Sai — ideal for a breakfast or lunch stop before or after touring the Mae Jo and San Sai area. 🕐Tue-Sun 11:00-20:30/21:00, closed Mondays
🥢Signature — Khao bai and beef hang lay curry simmered with local beef brisket, tangy and fragrant, Ban Tuek family recipe passed down over 5 generations

Euang Kam Sai sits inside the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre on Wua Lai Road, a few minutes by car from the south side of the old city moat. Open Tuesday-Sunday 11:00-20:30/21:00, closed every Monday, and Michelin notes the restaurant takes an afternoon break around 15:00-17:00 — so plan on lunch before 3pm or dinner after 5pm to be safe. Prices are easy on the wallet, true to Bib Gourmand form, around 55-130 THB a dish, roughly 101-250 THB per person.

The restaurant is mainly walk-in, but you can call 053-202-992 or 095-145-0296, or reach them on Line @oldchiangmai (the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre's line) to ask questions or get in touch ahead of time. The upside is air-conditioned seating for 150+, so big families or tour groups are well covered — no queue anxiety like at a small shophouse. It's an easy landmark to find too — the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre is the venue for the well-known khantoke dinner show, so just tell your taxi or drop a pin on the Centre's name. If you're going on a Saturday, pair it with Wua Lai Walking Street in the same neighbourhood — dinner here, then a stroll through the market right after. Read the full review →

🕐Open daily around 09:00-09:30 to 15:00, closed the last week/last Sun
🥢Signature — Spice-broth guay jub + house-marinated crispy pork from grade-A pork belly, prepared for 4 hours

Guay Jub Chang Moi Tat Mai has been serving Chang Moi for almost 50 years, since around 1977, now run by the third generation of the Wongmanotham family on a recipe passed down from their grandmother, who first sold guay jub in Bangkok's Wang Burapha area. The two things to order are the spice-broth guay jub and the crispy pork — marinated and fried fresh daily from grade-A pork belly, taking a full 4 hours to prepare. Prices run THB 80 for a regular plate and THB 90 for the special, which has kept this Bib Gourmand pick on the guide for five years running through the 2026 edition.

The shop is walk-in only — no online booking, just call ahead at 053-251-451 if you want to check it's open. Parking right outside is limited, though there's a private lot nearby charging THB 10–20 an hour, and the shop gets busy on weekend mornings with people following the MICHELIN trail. It sits on Chang Moi Tat Mai Road, a short walk from Warorot Market (Kad Luang), so it pairs naturally with a market walk before or after your bowl. Read the full review →

🍜 Bib GourmandNorthern Thai foodChiang Mai
🕐Open evenings daily ~16:30-23:30
🥢Signature — Ordeup mueang — a shared Lanna appetizer platter, eaten to live Kham Mueang music on the Ping River

Huan Soontaree sits on the Ping River on Pa Tan Road, a short way north of Chiang Mai city — about a ten-minute drive or ride from the Old City. The restaurant opens evenings only, daily from around 16:30-23:30 (closes 23:00 on Sundays), with easy-on-the-wallet prices of around 250-500 THB per person, and casual dress is fine. It's a large restaurant with seating for several hundred, so you can just walk in — but if you want a table by the river during high season or on weekends, it's best to call ahead at 083-860-8196.

The best time to go is early evening, to grab a riverside table before the live Kham Mueang folk music starts, which plays every night — Friday and Saturday nights get especially packed, so booking ahead is worth it. The dishes to order are ordeup mueang, deboned catfish, and gaeng hangle. One important thing to know: the restaurant has been listed for sale since June 2025, and while it's still operating normally for now, check the restaurant's Facebook page (facebook.com/huansoontaree) before every visit. 🕐11:00–21:00
🥢Signature — Sam Chan Hom Jang (crispy pork belly)

Huen Muan Jai is open daily 11:00–21:00, closed Wednesdays, with a budget of around THB 250–500 per person — the more people in your group, the better the value, since you can order Northern dishes to share across the table. The restaurant takes walk-ins, but being a well-known spot, queues run long from lunch through dinner, especially in peak season when crowds head up to Chiang Mai. Booking ahead by phone at 053-404-998 is recommended, or if you're walking in, arrive before 11:30 or after 2pm for an easier table.

The restaurant sits on Soi Ratchaphruek, Chang Phueak/Santitham area, near Kad Suan Kaew, off Huay Kaew Road — easy to drive to, with its own parking. An easy landmark: it's directly across the same soi from Khao Soi Mae Sai. Dress is casual, no dress code. The dishes to have on the table are Sam Chan Hom Jang, the original-recipe hangleh curry, jo pak kad, and sai ua. Order sticky rice alongside and you'll understand why this restaurant has held its Bib Gourmand continuously since 2020 through the 2026 MICHELIN guide. Read the full review →

🍜 Bib GourmandKhao soiNorthern Thai
🕐Mon–Sat 08:00–16:00
🥢Signature — Khao soi gai, rich broth fragrant with spices, made from scratch at every step, starting at 55 THB a bowl

Khao Soi Mae Sai is on Soi Ratchaphruek in the Santitham neighbourhood, near Kad Suan Kaew (across from Huen Muan Jai) — a quick ride from the old city moat by songthaew or Grab. The shop has no parking lot of its own, so if you're driving, park on the street in the soi. It's open Monday–Saturday 08:00–16:00, closed every Sunday, and closed for an extended stretch around Songkran, roughly 12–19 April each year — worth checking if you're planning a Chiang Mai trip around the Thai New Year.

The shop takes no reservations under any circumstance — it's walk-in only, queue tickets handed out at the door. Call 053-213-284 if you have questions. A bowl runs about 55–90 THB, so budget under 100 THB per person, and cash is the easiest way to pay. Go before noon — khao soi sells out fast here and often runs out before closing time. Show up in the afternoon and you risk missing the standouts like khao soi gai or khao soi neua; go earlier and you get both a shorter queue and the full menu. Dress is completely casual — this is a homely shophouse restaurant, a good stop for lunch after wandering Chang Phuak or shopping at Kad Suan Kaew. Read the full review →

🍜 Bib GourmandChiang Mai
🕐17:00–22:00
🥢Signature — Old-school dried-fish watermelon salad, and sun-dried squid fried with peanut sauce

Magnolia Café is in the Fa Ham–riverside area on Rattanakosin Road, near Rattanakosin Bridge on the Ping River. It's open for dinner only, 17:00–22:00. Its weekly day off is unclear from available sources — some say closed Sundays, but the restaurant's Instagram says closed Wednesdays — so it's best to call ahead every time: 053-872-395 or 061-684-8222. Budget around 400–600 THB per person (MICHELIN price rating ฿฿).

Most important: the restaurant is genuinely small, with just four large round tables seated communal-style with other diners, so you should always call ahead to book, especially during the high season when Chiang Mai gets busy. If you want to try the Chef's Table, it must be booked in advance only. Must-order dishes are the sun-dried squid fried with peanut sauce and the old-school dried-fish watermelon salad, finished with the free pandan khanom piak poon every table gets at the end of the meal. Getting there is easiest by car or red songthaew — about 10–15 minutes from the old city, making it a relaxed riverside dinner after a full day exploring town. Read the full review →

🥢Signature — Five-colour natural rice served with pork rib curry with longan

Budget around 200–400 baht per person, with standout dishes running 120–140 baht (MICHELIN rates it ฿฿). Credit cards accepted and there's parking on site. The restaurant is in the Long Him Kao community, San Klang subdistrict, San Kamphaeng district, about a 20-minute drive from Chiang Mai city centre. Hours are inconsistent across sources — local listings like Wongnai/Tripadvisor say 10:00–17:00, closed Wednesdays, while the MICHELIN page says 10:00–20:00 daily. Best to check the restaurant's Facebook page before heading out.

Walk-ins are fine, or you can book ahead via the restaurant's Facebook page. The phone number listed on the MICHELIN page is +66 95 693 9586. Saturdays and Sundays get very busy with both Thai and international customers, and a 2025 review complained the daily queue system isn't very organised — going before noon is the safer bet. After eating, don't rush off — you can walk around Long Him Kao and browse the craft work and natural-dye textiles right there. Read the full review →

🍜 Bib GourmandChiang Mai
🕐17:00–22:00, closed Tuesdays
🥢Signature — Three seasonal set menus — Special / Seasonal / Classic — built from ingredients the chef sources directly from local farmers and fishers

Rasik Local Kitchen sits on Sri Donchai Road in Chang Klan, an easy walk from Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. Open for dinner only, 17:00–22:00, closed Tuesdays. Budget runs 500–1,000+ THB per head (Wongnai lists 501–1,000 THB; Restaurant Guru lists 600–1,600 THB). Choose from three set menus — Special, Seasonal, and Classic — which change with the season.

Booking is the most important part of this restaurant. There are only 14–16 seats, split across three seatings a night, so reservations only — through Facebook Messenger (facebook.com/rasik.chiangmai), Instagram DM @rasik.chiangmai, or by phone at 083-269-6632. There's a 500 THB deposit per booking, and you need to arrive on time or the reservation gets cancelled immediately. Book at least 2–3 days ahead normally, but during Chiang Mai's high season (late year through early year) allow 1–2 weeks. An easy trick: book the first seating of the night, so you'll still have time to walk off dinner at the Night Bazaar afterward. Read the full review →

🍜 Bib GourmandStreet foodRoti
🕐Evenings to midnight daily
🥢Signature — Crispy roti fried in coconut oil, egg-free dough, crisp outside and chewy inside

Roti Pa Day sells from a roadside cart in front of Wat Mahawan on Tha Phae Road, on the eastern side of Chiang Mai's old town, a few minutes' walk from Tha Phae Gate. Prices start at 15 THB a piece (egg roti), 35 THB for the crispy roti, and 55 THB for the Nutella topping. It's open evenings until around midnight every day (roughly from 17:30–18:30 onward — as a roadside cart, the exact set-up time can shift from day to day). There's no booking system of any kind, cash only, and queue tickets are handed out at the cart.

During the cool season or on holiday nights, the queue of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese travelers runs long every evening. The trick is to arrive before 18:00 to grab a queue ticket as soon as the cart sets up, because only about 10 kilograms of dough — roughly 300 pieces — is made each day. Once it's gone, that's it, no more made. The easiest way to get there is to walk from the Tha Phae–Chang Moi area, or just tell a red-truck driver "Wat Mahawan, Tha Phae Road" — the whole city knows it. After buying, it's an easy walk on toward Tha Phae Gate or Warorot Market to keep exploring. Read the full review →

🥢Signature — Pad Thai and royal-court Thai set menu, made to Ajarn Saiyut's recipes

Budget runs around 400–600 THB per person, in line with Michelin's ฿฿ tier, with most main dishes priced in the low hundreds of baht — order several dishes to share around the table and it still won't hit your wallet hard. The restaurant is open 10:00–21:00, closed every Wednesday — remember that closing day, since plenty of people have shown up at the door only to be turned away. Walk-ins are normally fine given how much seating the large house has, but for big groups or a holiday dinner, calling ahead to book at 081-530-1172, 084-040-4021, or 053-211-848 is the safer bet. The restaurant accepts credit cards and has parking for several dozen cars.

The restaurant sits down Soi 12 off Chotana Road in the Pa Tan area, near the Ruam Chok Mee Chai market and the Khuang Singh intersection, about 10–15 minutes' drive north from the Chiang Mai old city moat — use the Ruam Chok Mee Chai market as your landmark. The easiest time to visit is a weekday lunch, when tables are easy to get and the kitchen isn't rushed. Anyone staying around San Kamphaeng has two branches closer by. This route also connects well to Mae Rim or Mon Jam, making it a good first stop before heading up the mountain. Read the full review →
