The picks
Blue Canyon Country Club
Phuket's most famous club, with two 18-hole courses. The Canyon Course hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic three times and is where Tiger Woods won in 1998 — it plays harder and more demanding than the Lakes Course, which has rebuilt greens. It sits in the north of the island, under 15 minutes from the airport. Recent reviews praise the caddies and green conditions, though some note the clubhouse facilities can feel dated.
Red Mountain Golf Club
One of Phuket's most scenic and challenging courses. Opened in 2008 on a former tin mine in Kathu, its signature is dramatic elevation change, red earth against green turf, and old mine scars worked into the design as hazards. It plays to par 72 at around 6,781 yards. Reviews praise the fun, helpful caddies and the unhurried pace, but warn that many holes need real thought before you swing.
Laguna Golf Phuket
An 18-hole, par-71 course inside the Laguna resort complex in the north of the island, near Bang Tao Beach and the Angsana and Banyan Tree hotels. Reviewers rate it among the best-maintained courses in Phuket, with quick greens and fairways cut tighter and firmer than is common in Asia. A marshal keeps pace all day. Green fees run high, but it is very convenient if you are already staying in Laguna.
Loch Palm Golf Club
A par-72 course of about 6,555 yards in the centre of the island in Kathu, right next to Red Mountain and roughly 10 minutes from Phuket Town or Patong. Its calling card is the large Crystal Lake at its heart and lines of palm trees. It plays easier than its sister course Red Mountain, with generous, forgiving fairways. Reviews praise the views, the caddies' help reading lines, and the upkeep — a good pick for a relaxed round.
Mission Hills Phuket Golf Resort
An 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus, opened in 2004 in the Pa Klok area on the island's northeast. Its highlight is a handful of holes that play along the coast with open bay views. There is a driving range and on-site resort accommodation, which makes it a natural stay-and-play choice. Reviews are mixed — some love the stay-then-tee-off mornings, while others find parts of the facility dated.
Phuket Country Club
The first golf course built in Phuket, open since 1989, in the centre of the island in Kathu and also laid out over a reclaimed tin mine. It offers 27 holes in total plus a driving range. It is a classic resort-style layout without severe elevation, easy to reach, with green fees below the championship courses. Reviews are mixed — some praise the clubhouse and caddies, others flag patchy fairway and green conditions. A fair choice for a round that is not about difficulty.
