Nonthaburi sits right across the river from Bangkok, yet it hides two one-star kitchens: Akkee, where Thai cooking meets live fire and a hard-to-get reservation, and Suan Thip, a riverside teak house that eats more relaxed. Round it out with five Bib Gourmands, from the seafood at Chai to the fiery jungle curry at Kaeng Pa Loong Sa-Nga.
Akkee
The main cost is the dinner set menu at THB 3,850 per person (add-ons not included), plus the Thai craft beer and sato pairing — seven glasses for another THB 1,550 — if you want to go all out, or you can order a la carte instead. Booking goes through the widget at akkeerestaurant.com/reservation (eRestaurants system), by phone at (+66) 82 561 4691, or via LINE — seating is a small counter, so always book ahead, especially for Saturday-Sunday lunch, which fills up faster than anything else. Important note: the tasting menu has no seafood-free or vegan version.
The restaurant is in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. Hours are dinner 17:30-23:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Saturday-Sunday adding lunch from 12:00-15:00. Closed every Wednesday. The most reliable way there is by car or taxi/Grab — the Pink Line's Pak Kret Bypass station (PK07) is the closest station, but the walking distance from the station to the restaurant hasn't been confirmed, so grabbing a Grab from the station is the safest plan. Suan Thip
Suan Thip sits on the Chao Phraya riverside in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, with no train station within walking distance. The most convenient way there is by car or ride-hail via Soi Sukhaprachasan 2 Soi 9 or Soi Wat Ku. The restaurant is open daily 11:00–21:30, with a la carte mains running about 500–1,000 THB per person, while the Suan Thip-style khao chae set is 435 THB, sold only during April and selling out fast.
Booking is by phone directly with the restaurant only, at 02-583-3748, 02-583-4540, or 082-366-9696 — MICHELIN notes the restaurant takes its own bookings with no online platform. Weekends get busy with large family groups, so if you want the riverside pavilion, the best seating in the house, call several days ahead and state your preference directly. The best time to go is a weekday lunch, with good light and lighter crowds, and if you're set on the khao chae, call ahead before you head out to check it's still available that day. Chai
Budget per head around THB 250–500 is light for a Bib Gourmand-level restaurant — crab fried rice starts at THB 75, squid in fish sauce THB 230, fried grouper with fish sauce THB 390, and the large curry-powder sea crab THB 800. The restaurant takes cash only, so bring enough. Most tables are walk-in, but if you're coming as a larger group you can call ahead at 063-998-3986 or 088-978-1558 — no deposit needed, and no online queue system to fight over.
The restaurant is open 15:00–01:00 (Sundays until around midnight) and closed on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Early evening is busiest, so if you'd rather skip the wait, go in the late afternoon or after 9pm. Getting there means driving or taking a taxi to Soi Samakkhi 38, Tha Sai, Mueang Nonthaburi, since the MRT Pink Line's Samakkhi station is over 2 km away — too far to walk. On the plus side, the restaurant has its own car park and an air-con zone to sit in. Read the full review →
Chang-Wang-Imm
Budget runs around 500–1,000 baht per head, with most vegetable and curry dishes priced 160–290 baht. What pushes the budget up are two pricier items: the grilled giant river prawn at around 850 baht each, and the fried sea bass miang at 450–600 baht. Booking matters a lot, especially if you want the riverside pavilion with a view of Koh Kret's leaning chedi — that section always fills up first. Call 085-525-9242 or 064-060-4390, or message the restaurant's Facebook page ahead of time. No deposit is required based on available information, but you should still book rather than queue up at the door.
There's no rail access, so you'll need to drive or grab a taxi to Soi Wat Bang Chak, Chaiyaphruek Road, Bang Tanai, Pak Kret. The restaurant has parking. Open daily from 11:00, though closing time varies by source (Wongnai lists 20:00, while older reviews say 22:00–23:00) — call ahead to confirm before an evening meal to be safe. The best time to go is after 18:30, when the outdoor seating starts to cool down, and Friday–Saturday nights bring live music. Read the full review →
Hong Seng
Budget per person runs about THB 251–500 and up — most vegetable dishes and fried items are in the low hundreds, but the grilled giant river prawns are priced by size, so the bigger the prawn, the higher the bill, and the restaurant is cash only — worth remembering, so withdraw cash before you go. Booking is by calling the restaurant directly at 02-583-8631 or 02-583-7654 — they manage their own queue entirely, with no online booking system available.
The time to plan around carefully is weekdays, since the restaurant only serves lunch, opening around 10:00–10:30 (sources differ) and closing at 2pm sharp. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays it stays open until 4pm. The riverside wooden terrace tables are always the first to go on weekends, so arrive before noon if you want the Chao Phraya view. There are three ways to get there — take the Pink Line to Pak Kret Junction station (PK06) and walk about 20 minutes or grab a 5-minute motorbike taxi; drive and park in the public space under the Rama IV Bridge; or take a boat straight to the Pak Kret pier next to the restaurant, exactly as MICHELIN itself recommends. Kaeng Pa Loong Sa-Nga
Budget per person runs around THB 101–250, with most standout dishes in the THB 120–230 range — kaeng pa with grey-featherback fish balls at THB 120–170, kaeng pa with venison at THB 200, tom yum river catfish at THB 230, while the fried horse mackerel with fish sauce is the priciest at around THB 390. It's a walk-in restaurant with no online booking system; if you're coming as a large group, you can call ahead on 02-952-9992. Open daily 10:00–21:00 (some listings say until 22:00), but remember it's closed on the 16th of every month without fail.
Getting there is the main challenge with this restaurant. It sits in Soi Ngamwongwan 23 (Soi Wat Buakwan), about 500 meters in from the mouth of the soi, with no rail line reaching the door. The nearest stations are MRT Khae Rai (Pink Line) and Nonthaburi Civic Center (Purple Line), both about 3 kilometers away. Taking a taxi or motorbike taxi from either station is the most convenient option. Driving yourself is easier still, since the restaurant has its own car park. Go for lunch or an early dinner before dark for the fullest menu and the most comfortable seating. Read the full review →
SANN
Budget per person runs around 500–1,000 THB à la carte — small dishes like som chun start at THB 120, up to crab curry with chakhram leaves at THB 540, an easy price for a brand-new Bib Gourmand restaurant. There's no booking platform of any kind — you'll need to call 066-137-6749 or message the restaurant's official Facebook/Instagram page directly. Because it just earned its Bib Gourmand in 2026, weekends will noticeably get busier, so calling ahead every time is recommended, especially for a weekend lunch.
Getting there means driving — the restaurant is on Bang Yai–Bang Khu Lat Road, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi, and the nearest Purple Line MRT stations near Bang Yai are more than 3 km away, so walking isn't practical. The restaurant has its own car park and accepts credit cards. Hours per MICHELIN are daily 11:00–22:00 (Wongnai lists Mon–Thu 11:00–21:00, Fri–Sun 11:00–22:00). If you want a seat in the open-air garden-view section without the heat, a weekday lunch or an evening after the sun has eased off is the best time to go. Read the full review →
