Phuket is the rare province where a few-baht plate of Roti Thaew Nam at breakfast and a table at Pru, its one-star Green Star kitchen, at dinner both make sense on the same day. In between sit real Southern Thai spots like One Chun and the always-queued braised pork at Go Benz.
Pru
PRU sits at the entrance to the Trisara resort on Sri Soonthorn Road, in the Cherngtalay area of Thalang district, on the north side of Phuket island, close to Bang Tao and Surin beaches. Pricing is a tasting menu: the PRU Experience runs 7,200++ baht per person, while lunch is a lighter Lunch Experience at 4,000++ baht per person. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday, with seatings at 18:00 / 18:30 / 19:00; lunch is Friday and Saturday only, with seatings at 12:30 / 13:00 — closed Sundays and Mondays, so don't mix up the days.
Bookings are made online at prurestaurant.com/reservation, or by phone at +66 76 683 344 / email reservations@prurestaurant.com. During high season (November to April) seats fill up fast, so book several weeks ahead. If you can choose, lock in the 18:00 seating so you get to eat with the Andaman sunset as your backdrop. The easiest way to get there is by car or taxi, using Trisara as your landmark. If you're staying around Bang Tao, Surin, or Laguna, it's just a few minutes' drive; if you're staying in Patong or Phuket Town, allow around 40 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. A Pong Mae Sunee
A Pong Mae Sunee is a street-side stall on Soi Sun Uthit, near Yaowarat Road, right in the middle of Phuket Old Town — an easy walk from Thalang Road and the Sino-Portuguese shophouse district. Open every day from 09:00 to around 14:00 (MICHELIN lists 14:00; Wongnai lists as late as 16:00), but the real thing to know is that it usually sells out before closing, since everything is made one piece at a time over charcoal and buyers never stop coming. Go in the late morning before noon for the best shot, and if you want to check ahead, call 086-743-7557.
Each piece is just 5–6 THB, so 20–50 THB is plenty to eat well. No booking needed at all — it's walk-in only, and cash only, so bring small bills or coins. While you're in line, it's worth just watching the tiny pans spin over the charcoal. The trick is to order and eat right there while it's still hot, when the edges are at their crispiest. It makes a great first stop on a morning walking the old town, before moving on to cafes and local restaurants in the same neighborhood. Read the full review →
Chuan Chim
Chuan Chim sits on Montri Road, near the Pearl Hotel, right in the middle of Phuket Old Town, an easy walk on from Thalang Road and the Sino-Portuguese shophouse district. Open Monday–Saturday, split into two sittings: lunch 11:30–13:30 and dinner 17:00–22:00, closed every Sunday. There's no table reservation system — walk-in only — but you can call ahead to check at +66 76 215 825. Budget for a full seafood spread runs around 500–1,000 THB per person, and the restaurant takes cash only, so bring enough bills.
Good to know before you go: dishes are stir-fried fresh wok by wok, so food coming out slower during peak times is normal — if you don't want to wait long, come right as the restaurant opens, especially for the lunch sitting, which runs just 2 hours. Miss it and you'll need to wait until 5pm. The dishes worth having on the table are the MICHELIN-praised seafood tom yum and deep-fried squid with garlic and pepper, plus stir-fried sataw beans and crab with young green peppercorns if you're a bigger group. Dress is casual. Read the full review →
Go Benz
Go Benz is on Krabi Road in the Talat Nuea area, right in the middle of Phuket Old Town — an easy walk from the Sino-Portuguese shophouses on Thalang Road. The restaurant is open evening to late night, roughly 17:30–24:00 (some nights run later), and closed on Mondays, according to Wongnai — so it's safer to plan your dinner for another day, or call ahead to check at 091-747-9353. It's walk-in only, no reservations, and cash only, so come prepared with cash on hand.
You can relax about the budget — plates run about 60–120 THB. Come as a pair and order the crispy pork khao tom haeng, pork blood kao-lao soup, and stewed pork ribs together, and it'll only run about 100–250 THB per person. The evening rush between 6pm and 9pm is peak hour, and a long queue is normal — the trick is to arrive right when the restaurant opens around 5:30pm, or go late after 9:30pm when the crowd starts to thin out. It makes a great way to close out the day after strolling and taking photos around the Old Town, since the restaurant sits within easy walking distance of the main sightseeing area. Khao Tom Dibuk
Khao Tom Dibuk is open every day from 06:00–12:00 (some sources say it stays open until 13:00) — it's strictly a morning shop, so don't show up in the afternoon. Prices are very easy on the wallet, starting around THB 50–60 per bowl, and a budget of THB 60–150 per person will get you a proper, full meal. The shop is walk-in only with no reservation system; there's a phone number, 076-215731, for questions, and according to MICHELIN Guide info, the shop accepts cash only, so bring small bills. Peak hours are 07:00–09:00 when it fills up with locals — go early right when it opens, or push your visit past 10am for an easier seat.
The shop is on Phang-Nga Road in Phuket Old Town, near the Provincial Electricity Authority of Phuket, which makes an easy landmark. If you're staying in the Old Town, you can likely walk there. Coming from Patong Beach or another beach area, drive or grab a ride into town. It's a great plan as a breakfast stop before walking Thalang Road and the Sino-Portuguese buildings, since everything is within walking distance of each other. Dishes to order are khao tom nam phalo, khao tom haeng mu ruam, and mee sua haeng. Read the full review →

Kin-Kub-Ei
Kin-Kub-Ei is booking-only — it does not accept walk-ins at all. Book through Facebook Messenger (the eatwithaunt page) or LINE @kinkubei, or call 083-509-8264. There's a 500 THB booking deposit, since the restaurant cooks only for the number of guests booked. On weekends, message well in advance since seats fill up fast. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00–17:00, closed Monday and Tuesday, and you should reconfirm the seating time when you book.
On budget, main dishes run around 290–300 THB, averaging about 300–600 THB per person — great value for Bib Gourmand-level food. The restaurant has parking and takes credit cards. It sits on Si Sunthon Road, Si Sunthon subdistrict, Thalang district, in the middle of Phuket island near the Thao Thep Kasattri–Thao Sri Sunthon monument. The easiest way there is by car or private ride — it's not far south of Phuket airport, making it a good lunch stop before heading into town or on the way to the west-coast beaches. Must-order dishes are the fried fish with curry paste sauce, moo hong, stir-fried squid in black ink, and nam chup yoh. Read the full review →
Krua Baan Platong
Krua Kao Kuk
Krua Kao Kuk is in the Talat Nuea area of Phuket Town, near the Thanon Phattana intersection, not far from the old town — you can drive or take a songthaew there easily from the old town area, and the shop has its own parking, which is fairly rare for a shop in Phuket Town. Open every day 11:30–20:30, no closing days, and prices are very friendly for a Bib Gourmand-level shop — around THB 60–300 per dish (MICHELIN price rating ฿฿). Two people can eat a full spread on a budget of THB 300–500.
The shop takes walk-ins only, no online booking, but if you want to check whether it's open or whether a dish has sold out, you can call ahead at 087-569-7574. The key thing to know before you go: the shop accepts cash only, according to MICHELIN. So bring cash with you. The recommended times are lunch right after opening around 11:30am, when everything is still available, or dinner between 5 and 6pm before locals arrive after work. If you're coming in the evening, don't arrive later than 7:30pm, since the shop closes at 8:30pm and standout dishes like the fish porridge may sell out first. Dress is casual — this is a true local porridge shop. Read the full review →
Krua Praya
Krua Praya is on Soi Hua Tha 1 in the Si Sunthon area of Thalang district, near the Thao Thep Kasattri-Thao Sri Sunthon Monument — easy to drive to, with its own parking lot and wheelchair-accessible entrance. Open 11:00–22:00, closed every Tuesday. Prices run around 50–400 THB per dish (฿฿ level per MICHELIN); come with 3–4 people, order enough dishes to cover the table, and it still works out to about a hundred baht or so per head. Credit cards accepted, including Visa, Mastercard, and JCB.
The restaurant takes bookings by phone directly at 083-138-6789 — there's no online booking system. On weekday lunches you can simply walk in, but weekend evenings get the busiest, so it's worth calling ahead. The restaurant itself is a large, old-style Thai house with both an indoor zone and an outdoor zone, comfortably handling big groups — pick whichever suits the weather that day. The location sits in the middle of the island, closer to Phuket Airport than to the town center, making it a good pick for a first meal after landing or a final meal before flying out. Check the restaurant's Facebook page for menu updates and any special closures. Read the full review →
Mor Mu Dong
Mor Mu Dong is walk-in only, no reservations — first come, first seated. There's a phone number for questions at 088-766-1634. Open daily 10:00–21:30, but there's one important rule to remember: the restaurant closes on the 15th of every month, and if the 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the closure shifts to the following Monday instead. Worth checking the calendar before you leave your hotel so you don't waste a trip. Budget runs around 300–500 THB per person — very light for Bib Gourmand-level seafood. On payment, sources still disagree on whether cards are accepted, so bringing cash is the safest bet.
Getting there requires driving or hiring a ride — the restaurant sits in the mangroves along Mu Dong canal, off Soi Pa Lai from Chao Fah East Road, in the Chalong zone, near the old Phuket Zoo. The best time to go is before noon, since the wooden canal-side pavilions are limited — arrive early for the best spot with the best view. If you're set on the salt-grilled fish, order it the moment you sit down since it takes about 30 minutes on the grill. Dress code is casual. Read the full review →
Naam Yoi
Naam Yoi is on Ruam Phatthana Road, Rassada subdistrict, on the edge of Phuket Town, about a 10-minute drive from Phuket's old town district. Open daily 10:30–14:30 and 16:30–19:30 (some sources note it closes for an afternoon break from 14:00, so allow a little buffer). Prices sit at THB-THB, MICHELIN's price tier — realistically just a few hundred baht per person — but bring cash, since the restaurant is cash-only.
The restaurant runs mainly on walk-ins. If you want to book a table ahead, phone reservations are taken Monday–Friday only, at 076-525-858 or 099-629-3656. Tables are limited and dishes are cooked fresh to order from ingredients bought before dawn, so the best items sell out fast. Go before the lunch rush — arriving between 10:30–11:30 gets you the full menu. There's no English menu, so if you're going with foreign friends, it helps to have the Thai dish names ready, such as moo hong, gaeng som pla sod, and fried sand goby fish with turmeric. Niyom Salt Grilled Duck
Niyom Salt Grilled Duck sits near the Thanon Khwang junction on Chao Fa West Road, Wichit sub-district, just before you enter Phuket Town proper. Open 14:30–19:30, closed Tuesdays (some Thai sources list 14:00–19:00, so build in a little buffer). Prices are straightforward: half duck 180 baht, whole duck 350 baht, sticky rice 10 baht a bag, and cash only.
This is a walk-in restaurant with no table reservation system, but the duck is grilled fresh in batches of roughly 30–40 a day, and once it's gone, it's gone — it often sells out before closing time. The best move is to call ahead at 087-282-4719 to reserve duck, then drive over to pick it up. Walking in during the peak window from around 3pm to evening can mean a 30-minute to 1-hour wait. Aim to arrive right when the restaurant opens, around 2:30–3pm, to get duck fresh off the first batch from the charcoal fire. The location sits right along the route between the island's southern beaches (Rawai, Nai Han) and Phuket Town, so driving or riding a motorbike is the easiest way in. Buying duck to take back to where you're staying is exactly how the locals do it. Read the full review →
One Chun
Pathongko Mae Pranee
Pathongko Mae Pranee is a roadside cart selling takeaway only, with no seating, beside the Super Cheap Naka branch on Wirat Hongyok Road, Wichit sub-district, right next to Naka Market's tailgate flea market — the Super Cheap Naka coordinates are the easiest way to find it. Open Monday to Saturday, roughly half past five to ten in the morning, or until it sells out; closed Sundays. Prices are very easy on the wallet: four pieces of plain pathongko run about 10 baht, while filled versions like sausage or cheese run 10-20 baht a piece (prices from a 2021 interview, may have crept up a little since). Budget under 100 baht a person, easily.
No bookings needed and none are taken — just walk up and buy at the cart. There's a phone number, 087-386-8894, for questions, and cash only is accepted, so bring small notes to keep things moving. The best time to go is before 9am, since items often sell out before the listed closing time, especially on Saturdays when Naka Market draws a crowd. If you want every filling available, including crab and cheese, the earlier the better. It's just a few minutes' drive from Phuket Town, near the turn into the Naka area — park near the market and walk over. Read the full review →
Roti Chaofa
Roti Chaofa sits on Chaofa Road in the Talat Nuea area, next to Thai Credit Bank, about 1 kilometre south of Phuket's old town — a few minutes away by car or motorbike. The shop opens very early, from 06:00 to 13:00, and is generally closed on Mondays, though some sources say it's open every day, so it's worth calling ahead at 076-221-771 to avoid a wasted trip. No bookings are taken — just walk in and take a seat. It's a big shop with plenty of seating and tables turn over fast, so even when the queue is busy on weekend mornings, you won't wait too long.
The budget is easy on the wallet: dishes start at around THB 10-30 each, and eating your fill of roti, curry, and chicken biryani still won't cost you 100 baht a head. The shop takes cash only, so bring small notes. The best time to go is early morning through late morning, since some curry pots — especially the goat curry and beef massaman — often run out before noon. Roti is fried fresh in front of you throughout opening hours, so there's no need to worry about it sitting around. Coming for breakfast before a walk around the old town is the perfect plan.
