Best tours &
activities in Koh Samui

Samui packs a lot into one island. You can catch a morning speedboat out to the Ang Thong islands, be back to see the Big Buddha by afternoon, and wander Fisherman's Village in Bophut by evening — or trade all of that for a 4x4 run through the jungle to a waterfall. Most tours here book online ahead of time, include hotel pickup, and send an e-ticket the moment you pay. We picked eight experiences that are well reviewed and genuinely bookable, with a note on who each one suits so you can slot them into your trip. Prices below are rough ranges; check dates and time slots when you book, since peak-season departures fill up fast.

Top picks in Koh Samui

1

Ang Thong Marine Park tour by speedboat

The most-booked highlight on Samui. A speedboat runs you out to the 42-island archipelago, where you climb to a viewpoint over the emerald Inner Sea lagoon, snorkel over coral and paddle a kayak. A Thai buffet lunch is included and you're back the same day — the easy first-timer pick.

Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan snorkeling day trip

The trip for clear water and live coral. A speedboat reaches Koh Tao in about 90 minutes, stopping at several snorkel spots thick with fish, then lands at Koh Nang Yuan, where a short climb opens onto the sandbar linking three islets — one of the best photo views in the Gulf. Lunch and hotel transfer included.

Big Buddha & Wat Plai Laem temple tour

An easy half-day for temples and views. It starts at the Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai), a 12-metre gold statue that has marked the island since 1972, then moves on to Wat Plai Laem and its 18-armed Guanyin standing in the middle of a lake, where you can feed the fish to make merit. Both temples are free; cover shoulders and knees.

4x4 jungle safari to Na Muang Waterfall

For the adventurous: climb into a 4x4 jeep and grind up into the island's hills, stopping to swim at Na Muang Waterfall (Samui's biggest, with water year-round), the Secret Buddha Garden, a rubber plantation, the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks, and a hilltop restaurant where lunch comes with a view over the whole island. A full, packed day.

Thai cooking class with local market tour

For anyone who wants to go home and make their own tom yum. You start by walking a fresh market with the chef to pick ingredients, then cook three or four Thai dishes plus a dessert. Instructors speak English and you leave with the recipes. Good for couples, families or solo travelers; figure on three to four hours, and some classes include transfers.

6

Jungle zipline canopy adventure

Family-friendly adrenaline. You clip onto a zipline and glide across the forest canopy, cross rope bridges and descend from one of the island's high points. Several parks operate here, from a quieter, beginner-friendly setup at Lipa Noi to courses with dozens of lines, all with guides handling safety. Most include hotel pickup and instant confirmation.

Sunset dinner cruise

A romantic evening on the water. The boat sails out at dusk to catch the sunset along the Samui coast, with a buffet dinner and a welcome drink; some run a large red-sailed junk, and a few add late-afternoon snorkeling and fishing. A natural fit for couples, anniversaries or a special-occasion night.

Island highlights tour with Fisherman's Village

To see the whole island in a day. This loop hits the main sights — Na Muang Waterfall, the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks, the Big Buddha — and stops at Fisherman's Village in Bophut, a row of old Chinese shop-houses now full of boutiques and cafes (with a Friday-night walking street), plus the Lamai viewpoint. Best for short trips where you want a bit of everything.

FAQ

How many days do I need on Samui?

Three to four works well. Use the first day to settle in, the second for a sea tour (Ang Thong or Koh Tao), and the third for the island itself — the Big Buddha, a waterfall, Fisherman's Village — leaving a day for the beach or a spa. With five days or more, add a diving trip or a Koh Phangan day trip.

Ang Thong or Koh Tao — which tour should I pick?

If you're after island scenery, green lagoons and big viewpoints, choose Ang Thong — it's closer and more family-friendly. If clear water, fresh coral and lots of fish matter more, go to Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan, which is a longer, rougher ride. Bring motion-sickness tablets if you're prone to it.

Do I need to book ahead or can I just turn up?

In high season (December to April), book at least a day or two ahead — boat slots and pickup seats fill quickly. Booking online is usually cheaper and gives you an instant ticket, and most tours allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before, so you can adjust around the weather.
