Where to stay in
Bang Sue–Krung Thep Aphiwat

Bang Sue–Pradiphat has changed a lot since Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (most people still call it Bang Sue Grand Station) opened. Long-distance trains and the SRT Red Line now run from here instead of Hua Lamphong, so it's where you start or end a rail trip to Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, or Hua Hin. Next to it are the Bang Sue and Tao Poon MRT stations, where you change between the Blue and Purple lines, plus Pradiphat Road with its run of local restaurants and cheap eats. Worth knowing: there still aren't many hotels right inside the terminal building, so most stays are spread around Pradiphat, Tao Poon, and Bang Sue, a short taxi or MRT hop from the station. In return you pay less than in the central areas. It's a good base for rail travellers, budget-minded visitors, and anyone who wants a quiet night in a genuinely local neighbourhood and is happy to ride the train into Chatuchak or the inner city.

FAQ

Who is Bang Sue–Pradiphat best for?

It suits travellers catching long-distance or Red Line trains at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue), people changing between the MRT Blue and Purple lines at Bang Sue and Tao Poon, and budget-minded visitors who want a quiet local area and are happy to ride the train into town. Room rates are noticeably cheaper than Sukhumvit or Silom. If your focus is nightlife, big malls, or walking straight to the sights, though, a central area is a better match.

Is it easy to reach the airport and Chatuchak from Bang Sue Grand Station?

Chatuchak is very close: take the MRT Blue Line from Bang Sue a few stops to Chatuchak Park or Kamphaeng Phet, or a 10- to 15-minute taxi gets you to the market and JJ Green. Don Mueang Airport is nearby too, roughly a 20- to 30-minute taxi, or you can ride the SRT Red Line straight from the central terminal to Don Mueang. For Suvarnabhumi, take the MRT and change to the Airport Rail Link at Phetchaburi, around an hour depending on the time of day.

Are there hotels right inside Bang Sue Grand Station?

There still aren't many hotels directly connected to the terminal building. Most stays are spread around Pradiphat, Tao Poon, and Bang Sue, a short taxi ride or one or two MRT stops from the station. If you have an early-morning or late-night train, pick a place close to Tao Poon or Bang Sue MRT, such as The State or Rich Park@Tao poon, so you can walk or hop a quick ride to the platform, and leave a little buffer for the trip.
