The raft houses sit on Cheow Lan Lake and need booking ahead as numbers are limited; rates usually include the boat transfer and meals. One night is enough to catch the karst views at dawn, or stay at a resort by the park entrance and join a day tour on a budget.

Is Khao Lak good for families?

Very much so — long beaches, gentle surf in high season and many resorts with pools and family facilities. It is calmer than Phuket and Patong, good for a real rest, and the launch point for Similan Islands tours.
