About — Uttaradit
Uttaradit sits on the seam between the North and the central plains, and plenty of people drive straight through it on the way to Phrae or Nan without stopping. That's a shame, because there's a lot to see. The province is famous for sweet langsat and longkong that come out in the rainy season, and Sirikit Dam holds back the Nan River to form a wide reservoir. Two long-revered shrines, Phra Thaen Sila At and the standing Buddha, are the town's spiritual anchors. Over in Laplae district you'll find a legendary old town with wooden houses, orchards of long-laplae and lin-laplae durian, and the hand-forged knives of Ban Nam Phi, made the old way for generations. If you like quiet towns without the crowds, Uttaradit is easier to enjoy than you'd expect.
