This plan suits anyone who wants to see both sides of this district in a single day — the orderly, premium fresh market on one hand, and the sprawling, buzzing weekend market on the other. Start on the Or Tor Kor side in the morning while it's still cool, then cross to Chatuchak in the afternoon once the stalls are all open, and end the day at a park where you can sit down without spending another baht. It works best on a Saturday or Sunday, since Chatuchak Weekend Market only runs at full size on those two days.
The Route
Morning to evening: Or Tor Kor to Chatuchak Weekend Market
Before you walk this route
Chatuchak Weekend Market only runs at full size on Saturday and Sunday — on a weekday you'll only find the plant zone (Wednesday-Thursday). Or Tor Kor Market, by contrast, is open every day, so you don't need a weekend to enjoy that half of the route. The district's main transport hub is MRT Chatuchak Park/Kamphaeng Phet and BTS Mo Chit, both connected by walkways and skywalks through the market area. Most of the older shops and market stalls run mainly on cash, so keep small notes on you.
Adjust the plan to your time and style
This district turns on two markets that run on different schedules: Chatuchak Weekend Market is really a Saturday-Sunday affair, while Or Tor Kor opens daily. Plan around the day you come.
- Visiting on a weekday: Chatuchak is only partly open, so switch to Or Tor Kor in the morning → lunch at Sudjai → Chatuchak Park in the afternoon. You still get the district without a wasted trip.
- Only three hours: pick one market — Chatuchak at weekends, Or Tor Kor midweek — then finish with coconut ice cream and the park.
- Here for food: give Or Tor Kor the most time. Its fruit, seafood and ready-to-eat food are a clear step above an ordinary market. Walk Chatuchak quickly instead.
- With kids: start in Chatuchak Park while it is cool, then hit the market. Chatuchak's lanes are narrow and packed on weekend afternoons, and they do not suit a stroller.
💡 Know before you go: Mo Chit-Chatuchak
BTS Mo Chit, MRT Chatuchak Park and MRT Kamphaeng Phet surround the district. Kamphaeng Phet Exit 3 is closest to Or Tor Kor; use Exit 2 for the weekend market.
Around 500-1,000 baht for market food and a few souvenirs, more if you plan to shop seriously. Bring cash — plenty of stalls still do not take cards.
Chatuchak is hottest and most crowded on weekend afternoons. Starting before 10am makes the walking far easier, and Or Tor Kor's produce also looks best in the morning.
Or Tor Kor is roofed throughout. Chatuchak is only partly covered and the lanes get slippery, so shift to Chatuchak Park once the rain eases.
