Where to stay in
Mo Chit–Chatuchak

Mo Chit–Chatuchak is the northern corner of central Bangkok, best known for the Chatuchak (JJ) Weekend Market, the city's biggest weekend market. Right beside it are the Or Tor Kor fresh market, Chatuchak Park, and JJ Mall, enough to fill a whole day on foot. The real draw is transport: this is the one spot where the BTS Sukhumvit Line meets the MRT Blue Line (you change trains at Mo Chit–Chatuchak Park), plus the Mo Chit bus terminal for coaches to the north and northeast, and it sits closer to Don Mueang Airport than most central areas. Stays range from cheap hostels to 4-star hotels with pools, making it a good base for market shoppers, anyone catching a bus upcountry, and travellers flying in and out of Don Mueang.

FAQ

Who is Mo Chit–Chatuchak best for?

It suits travellers who plan to shop the Chatuchak Weekend Market, anyone catching a coach upcountry from the Mo Chit bus terminal, and people flying in or out of Don Mueang, since it's closer than most central areas. You can also change between the BTS and MRT here at Mo Chit–Chatuchak Park, so getting around is easy. If your focus is nightlife or lots of Western dining, though, Sukhumvit or Silom is a better match.

Is it easy to get to the airport from Mo Chit–Chatuchak?

Don Mueang is close and easy: a taxi takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic, or you can use the BTS/MRT and a connecting ride. For Suvarnabhumi, take the MRT Blue Line from Chatuchak Park and change to the Airport Rail Link at Phetchaburi, or ride the BTS and connect to the ARL, around 45 minutes to an hour depending on the time of day.

What days is Chatuchak Market open, and is it worth staying here midweek?

The Chatuchak Weekend Market is in full swing only on Saturdays and Sundays (some sections open Friday evening and on weekdays). If you're coming to shop, stay over Friday or Saturday night so you can browse at an easy pace. Midweek there's still the Or Tor Kor market, JJ Mall, Chatuchak Park, and Central Ladprao nearby, plus the strong transport links, so it remains worthwhile as a travel base even outside the weekend.
